Chickens are not allowed in some urban areas. However city residents are increasingly ignoring these rules.They find that chickens are excellent at protecting their gardens from pests,disposing of some kitchen scraps and they providing eggs.
Of course you need to provide the chickens with a safe ‘run’to protect them from birds of prey,raccoons and neighborhood pets.This isn’t all that difficult,particularly if you and your neighbors aren’t too fussy about appearances.You should always take their opinions into account as you’re unlikely to get into trouble so long as they don’t complain.An easy method is to simply re-purpose something else like an old shed or a child’s playhouse.
You can often find that others want to get rid of old buildings you can either use intact or simply salvage the materials from.If you can find some tin or lumber someone will let you have for removing it you’re halfway there. Only your imagination and inventiveness limit you.Of course you can also buy prefabricated kit coops.Some of these are quite nice,but you have to be wary of inferior materials and high prices.You want to have something that will protect your precious fowl from predators. Chickens aren’t that much trouble for the owner and they provide a lot of benefits.You just need to think your own situation through and consider how your neighbors will react beforehand.
