We used to have chickens for the purpose of having our own fresh eggs every day, and we did. Lots and lots. One reason was the chicken house, it was large , easy for the chickens to use and safe. And this is how we did it, we used an old wooden shed that we got from an allotment.
We placed it on a flat surface Removed any old nails that were sticking out so the chickens wouldn’t catch themselves when jumping or flying, and built on either side two perches with thick wooden poles and placed under them troughs full of hay to catch the eggs and lots of hay on the floor as well. Then cut a hole that is large enough for the chickens to go in and out of. Do not board up the shed door or block it in anyway as this is where you will be going in and out of to collect the eggs.
Once this is done you will need to put around your chicken wire , make sure it is a large area for your chickens to walk around and feed, but also make sure that it high and that you dig deep down at least 50cm but more would be better. This is stop foxes and other animals from getting in. Done this should give you eggs for years to come.
