Chickens make great pets because they are such entertaining creatures. Nothing is more captivating than watching a group of chickens get clucky over a swarm of flying ants, or a handful or grain dispersed on the ground.
Often if chickens are handled regularly they are quite happy to be picked up and stroked and of course this makes doing health check-overs easy too. They make surprisingly good company because they are quite vocal animals. They are continuously making a low clucking sound as they peck around at the grass, and as a chicken owner you will take great delight in learning to recognise your chickens noises.
Chickens express joy and fear as well as any human. They are quite low maintenance animals and really the only big must is keeping them safe from predators such as dogs and foxes. This is fairly easy as long as you build them a proper enclosure and ensure that they are shut away every night.
