In constructing or selecting a chicken coop you have to take several factors into the decision. First is whether or not your neighbors will object to what you have in the end.If you live in a populated area their opinion will matter as they can cause you many problems if they feel your decisions are adversely impacting their property value. They certainly won’t appreciate a noisy rooster either. So it’s always best to keep your neighbors informed.
In many cases they’ll have the right to veto your coop by refusing to grant an easement. You should always make sure to get an easement if one is required. It makes absolutely no sense to build something or have something erected unless you’re sure you’ll not have to tear it down as soon as your neighbor complains. Next you must consider a budget and figure out what you can afford. You must build a coop that will protect your chickens from predators, but often you can save money by salvaging construction material from job sites or old sheds. It’s possible to buy prefabricated coops also. The chickens will need plenty of air and each chicken will require it’s on nesting box, which is best placed off the ground. You’ll especially want to protect against snakes.Raccoons and dogs may simply destroy anything that isn’t built well enough to deter them so you can’t take too many shortcuts.
